The Ancient Egyptians (3000 to 525 BC) of both sexes were know to shave their heads for reasons of religious ordinance, cleanliness and heat. A light weight, porous fabric was used to attach real hair, sheep's wool and fibers such as palm. Wigs were mainly protection from the sun, much in the same way a modern day straw hat protects us from the harmful sun rays
